40th Birthday Gift Ideas For Men

What does a man want for his 40th birthday? For some men this is an easy answer: the latest power tool, a day driving a sports car, breakfast in bed, a day’s fishing or tickets to an international rugby match. Some men don’t need or want anything and when asked what they would like say, “nothing in particular!” This is not very helpful for the person trying to decide on a suitable gift that will be appreciated. Apparently, according to popular rumour men desire a Harley Davidson and a pair of leather pants as they hit their midlife crisis head-on. Not many gift givers budgets will stretch to this though – so let them buy their own if they really want one and then you can get them accessories to go with their shiny new purchase. You could always buy them a model one!

Honestly, all men are different and will appreciate different gifts. As the gift giver you just need to consider some key points before parting with any cash.

Budget – how much can you afford?
Relationship – colleague, family or mate?
Personality – how do they view their advancing years and do they have a sense of humour about it or will they be offended by too many gag 40th birthday gifts that make repeated references to their age and to the ailments of getting older.

Accessories, when chosen well can make the perfect personalised gift for a 40th birthday. How about a set of cufflinks themed for their favourite interest whether that is fishing or golf. Or maybe a gold pocket watch – preferably engraved with something personal to celebrate the occasion. I wouldn’t recommend a tie as gift unless it is for a colleague and is a novelty one – otherwise ties as presents are best left with the socks for filling up dad’s Christmas stocking!

Cool gift ideas for a blokes 40th birthday could include a day out driving tanks, a scuba diving lesson preferably with sharks, or a day at a race track driving an expensive and powerful race car or a trial flying lesson. As most people reach 40 they start to evaluate their lives and will inevitably start to thinking about the ‘what if’s’ and the “I wish I had’s” – so help them tick a few things off their list of things they would have liked to have done but never got around to. More ideas include bungy jumps, skydiving or parasailing – adventure activities which will be limited as the years advance for fear of putting out ones back or some other injury!
